Peter Downes is Curator of Minerals and Meteorites at the Western Australian Museum. He investigates kimberlites, lamproites, carbonatites and associated alkaline rocks from the Earth’s mantle, along with secondary minerals from the oxidized zone of Western Australian mineral deposits. He is also interested in the history of 19th Century mineral collections and the collectors who put them together.
